Materials You’ll Need
  • Basketball
  • Air pump (with gauge)
  • Tape measurer
Exploration
  1. Inflate the basketball to a pressure of 5 pounds per square inch (psi).
  2. Drop it from a height of 4 feet, and measure how high the ball bounces. (Repeat the experiment many times and take the average.)
  3. Repeat for inflation pressures of 10 and 15 psi.  What's the relationship between air pressure and rebound height?
